SQL Server 2008 (R2) SQL Agent

From Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

As we know, SQL Server Express does not have the SQL Server Agent available as a feature. For years we've had to use windows scheduled tasks and other means of calling scripts to handle maintenance.

With SQL Server 2008 and R2, you might notice that there is now a SQL Server Agent Service listed in the SQL Server Configuration manager. Don't get excited! This service is disabled and even on trying, you cannot enable it. The service I believe is for upgrade paths and will not function until you do just that. Upgrade!

False happy news! Maybe next release we'll get it (or a stripped version)
